Hysterectomy | Rockville Montgomery County, MD
Hysterectomy is one of the most common surgical procedures performed each year in the United States. Hysterectomy might be recommended as a management option for a variety of different conditions including fibroids, endometriosis, pelvic pain, pelvic organ prolapse, abnormal uterine bleeding and even cancer. Depending on the clinical indication Hysterectomy does not have to include removal of other pelvic organs such as your ovaries.
There are several different ways the uterus can be removed. Of the more than 600,000 Hysterectomies performed each year in the U.S. only a small percentage are done in a minimally invasive fashion. Your doctors at Potomac Ob/Gyn are committed to providing a minimally invasive approach to hysterectomy and gynecologic surgery whenever possible. We are able to utilize advanced laparoscopy as well as the daVinci surgical system to perform these procedures through tiny skin incisions instead of the larger open incisions commonly utilized. This provides our patients with a shorter easier recovery time with less pain and a faster return to normal activity levels. A laparoscopic Hysterectomy can even be done as an outpatient procedure. These patients go home after a short stay in the hospital sometimes on the same day as surgery. It is important for you to understand the different surgical approaches available and why one might be better for you over another. We will be able to tailor the discussion to your specific individual needs and concerns during your visit.
